Volunteer
Extra help is always needed, whether it be answering the phone on a busy Saturday afternoon, giving tours at an open house or stuffing envelopes for a fundraising letter. This year the Uptown Music Collective staff will be looking for students, parents and friends of the school to give a little of their time to help the school to run more smoothly. If your interested in helping out in any way please contact Jared Mondell for more information.
Understanding the Volunteer Hours and Community Event Requirements
Volunteer Hours: When you volunteer, you are giving something back to your community. Students who volunteer earn great
recommendations for future employment or college applications, develop marketable job skills, build their resume, enrich their
education and increase their confidence.
Here at the Uptown Music Collective we want our students to grow in every way. That’s why they are expected to volunteer 10 hours a year in the following approved ways:
- Performing or assisting in the performance of music at hospitals, nursing homes and homes for the aged.
- Performing or assisting in the performance of music at other nonprofit organizations’ events, such as Habitat for Humanity, CAPPA or the Rotary Club.
- Teaching or helping to teach music to kids in a local after-school program through one of our Outreach Projects.
Attendance at Community Events: There is musical candy and musical broccoli. Left to their own devices, most students will go with the candy. We want them to at least sample the broccoli enough that the healthy benefits might rub off. With this in mind, we are requiring certificate students to attend 6 Uptown Music Collective Calendar Events and 4 Teacher Approved Events.
UMC Calendar Events include:
- Williamsport Symphony Orchestra Concerts
- The Youth Symphony Concerts
- The Up Close Concert Series at Lycoming College
- Jazzin at the Community Theatre League, etc.
Teacher approved events: These could be any concert or musical event that a student attends that his teacher approves as being of sufficient quality to be counted.
