Styles Workshops

 

RS/W: Rock Skills/Rock Workshop:

BS/W: Blues Skills/Blues Workshop:uptown music collective styles workshops blues rock metal jazz

These two basic styles workshops both teach group performance skills as well as style-specific skills.  Both are broken down into two back-to-back workshops which run for two semesters and cover the chords, scales, rhythms, and history of the specific style.

JS/W: Jazz Skills/Jazz Workshop:

The Metal and Jazz workshops are organized in the same way as the Rock and the Blues workshops, with Metal being an extension of Rock and Jazz being an extension of Blues. Studying these styles in succession will lead to a better understanding of their development and techniques.

Once a firm base of understanding has been established through the group study and performance of the styles of rock and/or blues, students may choose from workshops based on the other related styles.  The three workshops offered this year are Reggae, Funk, and Afro-Cuban Percussion.

SW: Songwriters Workshop:

These workshop styles are specialized and require a teacher’s recommendation for enrollment.  Each teaches the fundamentals of performance in a particular musical niche.
