Seeking a balance between traditional piano education and the performance-based approach of the Uptown Music Collective, our piano teachers emphasize reading, technique, and listening in lessons designed to prepare students for the task of performing contemporary music. This includes the traditional elements of piano instruction, but also includes unique areas that are often left unexplored in traditional classical education, including improvisation and the use of electronic keyboards and synthesizers.  UMC piano students are encouraged to explore genres outside of the typical classical repertoire, and are educated in blues, rock, jazz, and other genres without loosing the focus and discipline characteristic of piano players.
