Recitals
In addition to large scale performances like the recent “The Unforgettable Fire: A Tribute to U2 and Irish Rock”, the Uptown Music Collective also presents regular student recitals that give younger, less-experienced students the opportunity to perform. Students take part in a student recital each semester before “graduating” to the larger productions. Working with private lesson teachers, students select, learn, and practice a song or piece of music, attend several rehearsals outside of their lesson, and finally perform with a band of other
students.
Student Recitals are an excellent way to remove much of the stress and nervousness around performing on-stage, and regular participation in recitals helps to build confident music students unafraid to perform. Participation in recitals also provides excellent experience in playing with a band, contributing to rehearsals, and practicing a specific piece of music with the intention of performance.
The music performed at the thrice-yearly recitals reflects the diversity of UMC students, including a selection of popular songs, classical pieces, and original compositions. Because the music is largely selected by the students performing it, the music performed at student recitals reflects the taste of the UMC student body.
