Summer Music Workshop Schedule 2010
Beginner Guitar (June 28 – July 2)
A week of guitar instruction for guitar beginners covering basic exercises, chords, scales and simple songs. This workshop is a great way to have fun and jump start your understanding and playing ability on the guitar.
I Wanna’ Rock (June 28 – July 2)
Open to students of all traditional rock instruments (guitar, vocals, bass, drums and keyboards) this workshop will teach students essential rock technique through the learning of important classic rock songs. Students must be proficient with bar chords, pentatonic scales and the basic blues scale.
Intermediate Guitar (July 12 – 16)
Based on the intermediate guitar requirements for Uptown Music Collective students, this class covers more advanced chords, arpeggios, scales and songs as well as technique and improvisation.
Vocal Performance (July 12 – 16)
Uptown Music Collective vocal teachers Kimberly Adair and Michelle Dennen will offer vocalists of all levels a workshop on vocal technique, vocal styles, warm-up exercises, sight singing, basic keyboard technique for vocalists and vocal harmony. A must for all students interested in improving their vocal ability.
Bass Guitar (July 26 – 30)
Spend a week learning the bass guitar from an area master, Tim Breon. Tim will discuss bass guitar technique, concepts and styles in a week long intensive workshop focused on the mastering the production of the low frequencies.
Drum Technique, Styles and Tuning (July 26 – 30)
Guaranteed to be loud, the drum and percussion summer workshop will be a drum students dream week. Focusing on the drum set and featuring segments dedicated to double bass, the rudiments and their applications, drum set history, performance styles, tuning and more this workshop promises to be a lot of fun.
Playing the Blues (August 2 – 6)
Will Ort will teach all instruments how to perform one of the most important and influential musical styles, the Blues. From the Chicago style to the Texas shuffle, this workshop will give every student a new appreciation for this explosive style while also giving them a powerful set of performance skills and new found musical confidence.
Jazz Improvisation and Repertoire (August 2 - 6)
Open to all instruments, this workshop taught by Dave Brumbaugh will focus on the technique and theory of Jazz improvisation and Performance utilizing a basic Beginner to Intermediate level Jazz Repertoire.
Advanced Guitar (August 16-20)
Like the name suggests, all manner of advanced guitar and musical concepts will be taught by Uptown founder Dave Brumbaugh, as well as advanced exercises, techniques and styles. Students in this workshop should be either apprentice or advanced level students or equivalent.
